Faculty of Fine Arts
University of Rajshahi
Welcome to the Faculty of Fine Arts
The University of Rajshahi is one of the largest universities in Bangladesh and the highest seat of learning in the northern region of the country. Established on July 6, 1953, the university has more than six decades of experience in providing higher education and advancing research. It is located on the lush green campus of Motihar, near the mighty River Padma, approximately seven kilometers east of the Rajshahi city center.
The necessity of establishing a university in the northern region was strongly felt soon after the creation of Pakistan, when the area was part of East Pakistan. This region lagged behind in access to higher education, and the University of Dhaka, the only university in the country at that time was situated in the capital, making it less accessible for students from the northern districts.
Among the prominent academic units of the University of Rajshahi, the Faculty of Fine Arts holds a significant position in promoting artistic education and cultural heritage. The faculty offers specialized programs in disciplines such as drawing and painting, sculpture, graphic design, and art history, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and professional skills among students. Through academic instruction, studio-based practice, exhibitions, and cultural activities, the Faculty of Fine Arts contributes meaningfully to the preservation, development, and contemporary interpretation of Bangladesh’s artistic and cultural traditions.
